Prevention > Youth Crime Action Plan (YCAP)

The Youth Crime Action Plan (YCAP) is a comprehensive, cross-government analysis of what the government is going to do to tackle youth crime and is designed to tackle the issue from different perspectives.

The long-term goal is to reduce youth crime by reducing the rate of
young people entering the criminal justice system for
the first time by one fifth (20%) by 2020.

Take the Challenge Project 2009

Bradford YOT has successfully used a grant, as part of the Youth Crime Action Plan, to tackle anti-social behaviour linked to alcohol misuse. The initiative, which took place in September, had three key strands and was delivered in partnership with local neighbourhood
poling teams, Bradford Youth Service, Bradford Youth Development Partnership (BYDP), the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service (WYTSS), and co-ordinated by Brathay (see below) - see the newsletter here

Exciting new partnership with Brathay

Brathay are working in partnership with Bradford Youth Offending Team and are housed in Bradford's Targeted Youth Support prevention hub - the 'Young People's Support Unit' - along with Youth Inclusion Programmes (YIP), Challenge and Support programmes and Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP). Brathay’s approach is to add value to existing services by developing bespoke programmes through partnerships across Children’s Services in response to identified need.

New bid to cut nuisance behaviour in Bradford

An operation has started to help curb under-age drinking and anti-social behaviour in parts of Bradford. The first night of the six-week project, called Operation Staysafe, saw uniformed police officers and youth workers patrolling the Holme Wood estate.
