Prevention > Restorative Justice Clinics

Bradford YOT, West Yorkshire Police and Youth Service will launch Restorative Justice Clinics in Shipley/Keighley in October 2011 and the rest of Bradford in January 2012.

How will the RJC work?

  • The young person and parent will be invited to attend the clinic.

  • They will be helped to improve the behaviour of the young person and make amends for their actions which may include resolving issues with the victim of their behaviour (Restorative Justice).

  • Agree an action plan to improve their behaviour which will be monitored for a set period.

Who will be targeted initially?

Young People at the:

  • Point of arrest for an offence as a diversion from the Criminal Justice System.

  • At risk of receiving a Red Warning letter for Anti-Social Behaviour.

  • Young People at high risk of offending identified by Neighbourhood Policing Teams

What are the benefits for the young person?

  • For those young people diverted from arrest they will not have a criminal record.

  • For those young people involved in anti-social behaviour then they will not have received a Red ASBO warning.

  • For high risk young people they will receive help to not break the law.

  • Victims will be directly engaged in the process, will be more satisfied with how the agencies have addressed their concerns.

The Restorative Justice Clinics will be launched as a Pilot and will be evaluated and hopefully will be a robust process for helping young people and families where there are these concerns.
