First Time Entrants (FTE)
Bradford has shown a 50% reduction in First Time Entrants
(FTE) in the Youth Justice system in since 2005/6.  This is significantly better than the Regional average of 12% and National average of 6%.
This results in fewer victims of crime and less young people with
criminal records that may hamper their chance of getting future
employment. - see more here

Re-offending Targets - April 2009
The government has set national re-offending targets and the PSA is a further demanding stretch target. The target (set over 3 years) has been met resulting in improved outcomes for young offenders and fewer victims of crime. - see more here

The YJB has also released a bulletin on the 2007 National Reoffending figures for Young Offenders.  Frances Done, Chair of the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales said, “These are very encouraging figures which indicate that children and young people are committing fewer and less serious offences. The YJB would like to pay tribute to the hard work undertaken by dedicated professionals in the youth justice system”. - see more here

YJB Youth Justice Planning Framework Results
December 2008

The Youth Justice Board for England and Wales have introduced a new performance monitoring framework which judges the performance of YOTs based on a set of national indicators, operational criteria and a small case sample. The YJB assessed Bradford YOT in September 2008 and judged us to be performing excellently (one of three YOTs in Yorkshire and Humberside in this category). - see more here

YJB Capacity and Capability Assessment
We have recently completed an annual Youth Justice Board Capacity and Capability Assessment (CCA) report which is sometimes called a Youth Justice Plan. The CCA focuses on:

  • The quality of our Assessments & Intervention

  • The fairness & effectiveness of our services

  • The services we provide for victims and communities

  • The skills and training needs of our staff

  • The strength of the local YOT partnership

National Indicators
The National Indicator Set consists of 198 performance targets which local authorities previously reported on. The public services in each area now negotiate a joint 'Local Area Agreement' with the government, identifying which of these targets are most important for their local communities. The Youth Justice Service is responsible for helping to achieve 6 of these targets for North Yorkshire :

  • NI 19: Rate of re-offending by young offenders

  • NI 43: % of young offenders receiving a custodial sentence

  • NI 44: Ethnic composition of young offenders

  • NI 45: Young offenders engagement in education, employment or training

  • NI 46: Young offenders access to suitable accommodation

  • NI 111: First time entrants to the youth justice system.
